CASE#18R076782
On October 26th, 2018 at approximately 11:36 P.M., Redding Police Officers responded to the North Bechelli River Trail access and dog park area for a report of suspicious activity.
Officer Leonard was the first to arrive on scene. He made contact with two subjects in a vehicle located near the entrance to the river trail access.
Officer Leonard immediately spotted a handgun lying on the floor of the vehicle near the drivers feet. When back-up Officers arrived, they detained the two subjects. The driver was later identified as Christopher Kirchner, 27 years of Redding. The handgun was determined to be a replica that had been altered to look like a real firearm. A second replica handgun was also located in the vehicle. The passenger was released with no charges.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Officers located a billy club, narcotics and a large ring of automobile keys including a shaved key used to access various types of vehicles.
Kirchner was arrested and booked into the Shasta County jail for possession of burglary tools, altering a replica firearm, possession of narcotics, and other drugs not prescribed to him.
