On October 6, 2018, in the early afternoon hours, officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Old Alturas Rd regarding a disturbance involving a male and female inside a recreational vehicle (RV). When officers arrived the RV was gone. They searched the area and located the vehicle in the area of Old Alturas Rd and Oak Mesa Ln. The subjects from the RV fled before the officers’ arrival. Officers were able to identify the male subject as Louie Alex Ortiz, 43 years of Redding. Officers were not able to locate him at that time.
On October 7, 2018, Officer Douglas Moore located the same RV parked on the shoulder of Victor Ave near Alta Saga Drive in Redding. When Officer Moore pulled behind the vehicle, he saw a male jump into the motorhome and close the door behind him. Officer Moore was able to identify the male as Ortiz. Ortiz is currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) and had an active felony warrant for his arrest for a PRCS violation. Officer Moore called for additional units to assist in taking Ortiz into custody for his warrant.
Officers surrounded the RV with Ortiz inside. Officers hailed Ortiz for approximately 45 minutes in an attempt to get him to surrender. Ortiz refused to exit the RV. Unbeknownst to Officers, Otriz’ 23 year old daughter learned about the situation. She arrived on scene and expressed her anger at her father’s behavior. She began yelling at Ortiz to surrender himself to Officers. Within minutes, Ortiz exited the RV, apologized to his daughter and was arrested without further incident.
Ortiz was booked at the Shasta County Jail for the PRCS warrant and resisting arrest.
