On October 27 2018, at approximately 6:25 pm officers with the Redding Police Department responded to Safeway, located at 1070 E. Cypress Ave. Officers were sent to the location regarding a male subject inside the store with a medical issue.
As officers were arriving, they learned the suspect vandalized the inside of Safeway. The suspect left on foot walking away from the business. Based on his behavior and actions it was believed the suspect was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Officers attempted to contact the suspect, Jarrod Windle, 28 years of Redding. The male immediately began running through the parking lot and refused to obey the officer’s commands to stop. Officers followed Windle through the parking lot to a nearby business, where they attempted to arrest him. As officers began handcuffing Windle, he started to violently resist, and pull away from them. While officers were struggling to handcuff Windle, he grabbed ahold of an officer’s firearm in an apparent attempt to remove it from its holster. He also attempted to grab another officer’s baton. Windle was taken to the ground and handcuffed with the assistance of Redding Fire Department Personnel, who were on scene.
Windle was transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail for public intoxication, resisting arrest, resisting with force, and resisting while trying to disarm a police officer.
