On November 1st, 2018 at approximately 6:55 a.m., Redding Police Department was dispatched to a roll-over traffic collision on Highway 273 at Girvan Road. Upon arrival, officers determined that a black 2000 GMC Yukon, trailering a quad runner, was southbound on Highway 273 approaching Girvan Road at a high rate of speed when the driver, for an unknown reason, lost control of the vehicle. The trailer collided with a traffic signal, causing the vehicle to roll several times.
The driver, identified as Brennan Emmitt Gard, age 21 of Anderson, was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. There were no passengers in the vehicle, and there were no other vehicles involved in the collision.
According to witnesses, an unknown driver was stopped in the intersection at the time of the collision. This driver was not identified and did not provide a statement. It is believed the driver can provide critical information concerning the collision. The vehicle is described as light-colored pickup towing a white enclosed utility trailer. Highway 273 between Canyon Road and Clear Creek Road was temporarily closed to through traffic. The traffic investigation is on-going.
