On November 23, 2018 at about 6:38 a.m., Redding Police Department (RPD) officers were dispatched to the intersection of Hilltop Drive and Browning Street for a traffic collision involving a vehicle, described as a black Honda Accord, and a black mountain bike. Based on evidence and statements at the scene of the collision, both the bicycle and vehicle were southbound on Hilltop Drive approaching Browning Street when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle struck the rear of the bicycle, causing the bicycle rider to fall. The collision occurred during heavy rainfall.
The driver of the vehicle, 39-year-old Janette Brockman of Redding, was contacted at the scene and uninjured. She was wearing her seatbelt. The mountain bike rider, 19-year-old Max Tehrani of Redding, was not wearing a helmet and was transported to Mercy Hospital for major injuries. Alcohol and/or drugs were not a factor in this collision.
