On November 13th, 2018, at 9:30 A.M., Redding Police officers were dispatched to the report of a stolen enclosed trailer from the 900 block of Merchant Street. Upon arriving, officers contacted the owners of Headwaters Adventure Company who advised an unknown suspect had stolen the business’s enclosed trailer sometime during the night. The trailer contained approximately $30,000 worth of outdoor gear. Officers searched the immediate area but were unable to locate the trailer.
The Redding Police Department Neighborhood Police Unit and Investigations Division assisted with the investigation and obtained information that the stolen trailer was possibly at a residence in the 5300 block of Doberman Lane in Anderson. With the assistance of a California Highway Patrol helicopter, NPU and Investigators responded to the Anderson residence and immediately noticed a large enclosed trailer that had recently been painted connected to a truck. Officers located Roy Croft (40 years of Anderson) inside the truck and he was detained without incident. Officers were able to confirm that the freshly painted trailer belonged to Headwaters Adventure Company and all of their outdoor gear was still secured inside.
As the investigation continued, officers discovered that the truck Croft was sitting in was also stolen. The owner of the truck reported it stolen to the Redding Police Department on October 22nd, 2018.
While at the scene, officers interviewed Croft who admitted to stealing the Headwaters Adventure Company’s trailer. He also admitted to painting the trailer in an attempt to disguise it from law enforcement.
Croft was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on the charges of vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, grant theft, and vandalism.
