CASE#18R084753

At approximately 9:24 p.m., Redding Police Officer Chris Kofford attempted to stop a silver 2013 Kia Optima in the area of Shasta View and Marigold Street. The driver, later identified as Richard Pulido, 33 years of age of Red Bluff, refused to stop and a brief pursuit was initiated. Due to the recklessness of Pulido’s driving and weather conditions, the pursuit was terminated on Hwy 44 near Victor Avenue.

Pulido continued westbound at a high rate of speed, losing control, and collided into another vehicle in the area of Hwy 44 and Interstate 5.  Members of the California Highway Patrol responded and arrived within moments alongside Redding Police Officers.

CHP investigated the traffic collision. The other driver, Raman Patel, 54 years of age of Redding, suffered minor to moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The other driver was not at fault.

Pulido also suffered minor injuries. He had objective symptoms of alcohol and marijuana use. RPD’s DUI Investigator Jacob Provencio arrived and conducted field sobriety tests. Officer Provencio’s investigation led him to suspect Pulido was driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana. Pulido was arrested.

Pulido was transported to a local hospital and received treatment for his injuries. He was then booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of felony evading and felony DUI causing injury.
