Redding Police Arrest Violent Suspect

PRESS RELEASE

Case # 19R027495

On May 1st, 2019, at approximately 10:30 p.m. Redding Police Officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Vega Street for a report of a Chevy truck crashing into a residence. While officers were enroute they learned the driver of the truck, who was later identified as Tyrone Joe Hill, 24 years of Redding, was now fighting with the home owners.

Upon arrival, officers contacted Hill outside the home. Hill was acting erratically and charged at officers. Officers had to use pepper spray to take control of Hill. The investigation revealed Hill had collided with two vehicles and a light pole during the incident. He did not crash into any homes. Hill was confronted by a resident in the neighborhood over Hill’s actions.  Hill chased the victim back into the victim’s home.  Hill kicked the front door in and violently attacked one of the residents.  During Hill’s attack on the homeowners, he bit one in the face and forearm causing moderate injuries.  The victim had to receive medical attention and was transported to a local hospital via ambulance.

Hill was taken to a different hospital for medical clearance. Once at the hospital while handcuffed and restrained, Hill bit an officer in the leg. The bite broke the skin and caused a moderate injury to the officer. The officer had to receive medical treatment. Hill also informed officers he was under the influence of marijuana while driving.

Once Hill was medically cleared, he was transported to the Shasta County Jail where he was booked for mayhem, residential burglary, assault on a police officer, and driving while under the influence of marijuana. At the time of this investigation officers were unable to confirm if the Chevy truck belonged to Hill.  During the initial stages of the investigation and through the booking process, Hill used his brother’s name.  He was later positively identified as Tyrone Hill and a charge of identity theft was added to his booking.
