On November 16, 2019 at 10:46 pm, Redding Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Tiburon Dr. and Red Tail Dr. after Justin Paul, 37 years of Redding, called 911 reporting a suspicious subject was at his front door. Paul’s daughter’s car had been broken into earlier in the evening and items taken during the burglary had Paul’s address on them. Paul feared the subject at his door was possibly associated with the vehicle burglary and arrived to commit a residential burglary.
Paul, an off-duty California Highway Patrol Officer, confronted the male and attempted to delay him until Redding Police Officers arrived. The male, later identified as Jeremy Carter, 39 years of Redding Ca., attempted to leave. Paul attempted to detain Carter who resisted. Paul used pepper spray, but Carter Fled on foot in the neighborhood.
Officers arrived in the area and were contacted by a citizen who had seen Carter run into the backyard of a residence in the 1100 block of Peregrine. Officer Jamie Rouland and Police K-9 Chase began a track for Carter. Chase tracked Carter into an adjoining yard and to an unlocked side garage door. Carter was located inside the garage hiding in the rafters. He surrendered without incident and was taken into custody.
Carter was booked into the Shasta County Jail for resisting, delaying a peace officer, prowling, trespassing, and possession of a controlled substance. The burglary to Paul’s daughter’s car is still under investigation.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at (530) 225-4200.
