Probationer Found With Concealed Firearm and Methamphetamine in Vehicle

On Friday, November 29th, 2019 at approximately 11:30 A.M., Officer Chapman of the Redding Police Department conducted a traffic enforcement stop near the intersection of Riviera Drive and Mira Vista Court. The driver of the vehicle was contacted and identified as Jason Ricketts, 50 years old of Almanor, CA.

A records check revealed that Ricketts was on Post Release Community Supervision, and had previously been convicted of being in possession of a stolen vehicle.  During a search of Ricketts’ person, Officer Chapman located approximately 8 grams of suspected methamphetamine in his pant pocket. A search of Ricketts’ vehicle revealed a loaded Raven Arms 25 auto handgun that was concealed in the driver’s door, immediately accessible to him. Ricketts is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to his previous felony conviction.

Ricketts was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, possession of a controlled substance, carrying a loaded firearm in public and a probation violation.
