CASE #19R082008

On December 13th 2019, a teenager was struck by the below pictured truck while he was walking on the sidewalk on his way home from school. This occurred on North Court Street near Riverside Drive.  Corporal Sheldon has been investigating this case for the past two weeks. During the course of the investigation, the driver of the hit and run was found to be Terry Bessey (49 years of Redding).

On December 30th 2019 at approximately 1:18 AM, a witness called SHASCOM to report that Bessey and the suspect vehicle, were currently in the area of Buenaventura Boulevard and Placer Street.  Officers arrived and located Bessey and the suspect vehicle.  The vehicle was towed as evidence and  Bessey was taken to the Redding Police Department Investigations Division to be interviewed. Bessey spoke with officers and confessed to hitting the juvenile with his vehicle and fleeing the scene.  Bessey also admitted to altering his vehicle to disguise it so he would not be caught.   Bessey brought officers to the location where he left the truck bed toolbox and broken vehicle side mirror. They were taken as evidence.  Bessey was booked at the Shasta County Jail for felony hit and run.  The juvenile victim is recovering from injuries as a result of the hit and run.  A photo of Bessey and the suspect vehicle is shown below.
