ABC Operation Nets Two Arrests
On January 30th, 2020, Officers from the Redding Police Department, in partnership with Agents from the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), conducted shoulder tap operation in the City of Redding. These operations incorporate the use of minors between the ages of 18 and 21, under the direction of undercover law enforcement officials, attempt to have citizens purchase alcohol for them with the understanding the individual is a minor. The goal of these sweeps is to deter persons from purchasing alcohol for minors. This is an overall effort to ensure compliance with alcohol sales laws, and to enhance the safety and prevention of minors having access to alcohol.
During the shoulder tap operations, 18 people were propositioned and two were cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor.
The Redding Police Department and California ABC would like to remind businesses and citizens of the dangers and legal consequences of providing alcohol to minors. These sweeps, frequently conducted in the area of Shasta County, have been successful in deterring this crime and have helped prevent minors from having access to alcohol. These operations are funded by a grant through the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
