Felony DUI crash leads to arrest

On Wednesday January 29th at approximately 9:28 PM. Redding Police Officers responded to a reported collision on Lake Boulevard near St. Marks St. On scene, Officers contacted Marco Antonio Merino, 33 years of Redding. Witnesses had reported seeing his vehicle swerving in and out of traffic minutes before he collided into the back of another vehicle. This pushed the other vehicle off the road and into a tree. The vehicle was being driven by a female who had a 9 year old and an 11 year old in the vehicle with her. The occupants sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Merino was found to be under the influence by DUI specialist Jacob Provencio. Merino was arrested and transported to a local hospital as well where he threatened Officers, hospital staff and other patients. Merino was later booked into the Shasta County Jail for Felony DUI, providing false information to a Peace Officer, resisting arrest and resisting arrest by threatening use of force or violence against the Officers.
