Around 8:30am this morning, a family living off Elizabeth Way in Redding noticed a male subject prowling around their neighbor’s vehicles. The victims went outside and yelled at the male subject. The male subject, identified as Jordan Ericsson 27-years old from Redding, yelled back at the victim and reached towards his waistband like he had a firearm.
Ericsson removed what appeared to be a firearm and walked towards the victim’s residence. The victim, who is a concealed weapon permit holder, pointed his firearm at Ericsson who he believed was armed and coming towards his family. Ericsson fled into the neighborhood.
Within minutes Officer Williams arrived and deployed his partner K-9 Otto to search for the subject. Additional Officers arrived and began looking for Ericsson. Ericsson, who had been hiding in a yard, quickly surrendered to officers.
A search of Ericsson yielded a blue lighter that had a pistol-like grip on it. No firearm was located in a search of Ericsson and/or the neighborhood.
Ericsson admitted to checking car door handles in neighborhood and removing a purse from an unlocked vehicle at a different residence. Ericsson said he did not have a firearm but used his cell phone to imitate a firearm.
Ericsson is on probation out of Shasta County for Burglary. A search of Ericsson’s property we located burglary tools and heroin.
While we always encourage neighbors to be on the lookout in their neighborhood, please be careful in confronting persons who you suspect are committing crimes as they may be armed. We always encourage you to move to safety and call 911.
