Meth and Handgun Lead to Arrest

On Tuesday January 28th, 2020, at approximately 10:50 P.M., Officer Mike Enyart of the Redding Police Department noticed a suspicious vehicle backed up to the Starbucks Coffee building at 1240 Churn Creek Road in Redding.  Officer Enyart contacted the occupant of the vehicle, 23 year old Eduardo Ruiz of Redding.  Ruiz admitted to having a firearm in the car.  A search of the vehicle located a semi-automatic 9mm handgun, and a glass smoking pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine.

Ruiz was arrested and a search of his person was conducted.  A small baggie of methamphetamine was located in his sock, and a holster for the pistol was tucked into his front waistband.

Ruiz was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle, and possession of a controlled substance while possessing a firearm.  He remains in custody in lieu of $25,000.00 bail.
