On Tuesday, April 21st, 2020, at approximately 12:11 A.M., Redding Police Officers responded to 2732 Lanning Avenue regarding a call of shots fired at that location. The reporting party said a male subject in apartment #1 had fired multiple shots through the front door of the apartment. The reporting party provided updates while officers were en route to the call indicating the male suspect was loading children into a white sedan and leaving.
As Officers arrived on scene, they encountered a white sedan parked in the middle of Lanning Avenue, and a male suspect standing near the vehicle with his hands raised in the air. The male in the street was quickly identified as 30 year old Nicholas Dillon Hall, the resident of apartment 1 and the suspect in the shooting. While officers were attempting to detain Nicholas Hall, a female suspect began trying to interfere with officers and remove evidence from the vehicle. She was identified as 28 year old Victoria Marie Mullersistrunk, wife of Nicholas Hall.
The subsequent investigation revealed Nicholas Hall had fired four rounds from a shotgun from inside his apartment through the front door of the residence. Hall alleged he had seen someone outside his residence and fired the shotgun in response but witness statements did not place anyone outside the apartment at the time of the shooting. Officers located three firearms and suspected narcotics inside the residence. Three young children were also located inside the apartment. The oldest child, an 8 year old boy, recounted to police watching his dad fire the shotgun through the front door of the residence.
Four empty shotgun shells were located on the floor of the apartment. The multiple loaded firearms located in the apartment were scattered around, unsecured, and within easy reach of the children. A plastic bag of suspected methamphetamine was also located within reach of the children. Some of the bag’s contents had been spilled out onto the floor. The residence was also found to be in deplorable conditions.
Nicholas Hall was arrested for cruelty to a child, negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a sawed off shotgun, and carrying a loaded firearm in public. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail and remains in custody at the time of this release.
Victoria Mullersistrunk was arrested for resisting or delaying a peace officer and cruelty to a child. She was booked into the Shasta County Jail.
Three young children were turned over to CFS. Nobody was injured during the shooting.
Photos of both suspects and evidence at the scene have been attached to this release.
