NEWS RELEASE

May 18th, 2020              6:30 A.M.

On Sunday, May 17th, 2020, at 11:48 P.M., Redding Police took a report of a stolen 2006 Honda Accord from a residence on the 700 block of South St. in Redding.  The Victim reported he was in his home when he heard the backdoor close, then his vehicle started and was driven away from outside the garage.

On Monday, May 18th, 2020, at 5:02 A.M., a Redding Police Officer attempted a traffic stop on the stolen Honda at the Jack in the Box at 4085 Railroad Ave. in Redding.  The Honda failed to yield and fled to northbound Market St. at a high rate of speed.  The Officer did not pursue the stolen Honda due to the rain and unsafe roadway conditions.

Approximately one half hour later, at 5:30 A.M., another Redding Police Officer located the stolen Honda where it came to rest after colliding into the structure under construction at West Coast Auto Sales at 2165 Pine St. in Redding.  Officers found Marcus Lego (63 years of Redding) in the passenger seat, but the driver had fled and is outstanding.  There was major damage to both the Honda and the structure.  Lego was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.  Lego could not identify the driver of the stolen Honda who is described as an Asian male adult with long black hair and a blue shirt.

This is an ongoing investigation and any member of the public with information is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4200.
