RPD arrests combative subject with help from K-9 Hank

 May 4, 2020           5:00 A.M.

On May 4, 2020 at 1:30 A.M., Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the 3700 block of Churn Creek Road on the report of an intoxicated male subject tearing off the interior bedroom doors of a residence while armed with a shotgun. As Officers responded to the scene, Shascom provided additional reports that the male subject had fled the residence and had occupied a nearby vehicle, still armed with the shotgun. When Officers arrived to the location, they observed Marcial Lawson, 27 years of Redding, standing in the parking lot of the apartment complex. Marcial Lawson immediately challenged Officers, displayed an erratic and belligerent demeanor and ultimately threw a glass bottle at Officers before fleeing into a nearby residence.

Redding Police Department Officers ordered Lawson out of his residence and he eventually emerged after a brief stand-off. As Lawson stood in front of his residence, he continued to ignore Officer’s repeated commands, and RPD K-9 “Hank” was utilized to take Lawson into custody. Officers later discovered a modified “sawed off” shotgun inside of Lawson’s vehicle.

Marcial Lawson received medical treatment for his injuries before he was booked into the Shasta County Jail for the following: assaulting a police officer, obstructing/resisting arrest, possession of a short barreled shotgun and a probation violation. A photo of Marcial Lawson is attached to this news release for reference.
