RPD K-9 Chase Makes Drug Bust

On Monday May 18th, 2020 at 9:39 P.M., Redding Police Officer Darren Hull conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle for an unreadable license plate. Officers contacted Clifton Hagood, 50 years of Redding and Candice Buchanan, 46 years of Redding inside the vehicle. Officers noted Hagood and Buchanan were nervous about items in the vehicle.

Officer Rouland and his partner, K-9 Chase were called to the scene. K-9 Chase sniffed the exterior of the vehicle and immediately detected the odor of illegal narcotics. Officers searched the vehicle and located approximately 65 grams of suspected methamphetamine, packaging material and scales.

Further investigation caused officers to suspect Hagood and Buchanan had just purchased the methamphetamine and were preparing to sell methamphetamine throughout the Redding area. The average dose of methamphetamine is .1 grams. K-9 Chase prevented 650 doses of methamphetamine from being sold throughout the Redding area this evening.

Officers Booked Hagood and Buchanan into the Shasta County Jail for possession and transportation of methamphetamine for the purpose of sales. Officers also booked Hagood for violating the terms of his parole and Buchanan for violating the terms of her probation. A picture of K-9 Chase and the seized narcotics are attached.
