On June 13th, 2020, at 6:35 P.M., Redding Police were dispatched to a single bicycle collision on College View Drive east of Bethel Church. Citizens called for emergency services after locating the male victim injured and unresponsive next to his bicycle.
There were no witnesses to the collision, but evidence suggests that the male was riding his bicycle eastbound on College View Dr., down the hill from Bethel Church, when he lost control of the bicycle and crashed into the curb bordering the roadway.
The male victim was transported by paramedics to the Mercy Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The investigation revealed he was not wearing a helmet and there was moderate damage to his bicycle as a result of the collision. It is unknown if the male victim was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the collision.
The Shasta County Coroner’s Office responded to the Mercy Medical Center and made a preliminary identification of the male victim; however, his identity is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of his next of kin.
Redding Police would like to remind citizens of the dangers of riding a bicycle without a helmet, to exercise proper bicycle safety, and to obey all traffic laws.
