Domestic Violence Related Kidnapping Results in Felony Charges

 September 8th, 2020          8:00 P.M.

On Tuesday, September 8th, 2020 at approximately 2:56 P.M., Redding Police Officers responded to 1221 Jaxion Way in north Redding regarding reports of a male dragging a female into a nearby wooded area.  While officers were en route, callers reported that a second male had intervened, stopping the assault.

Officers arrived and interviewed all of the involved parties.  Officers learned that a confidential victim and her friend, 26 year old Brianne Payne, of Redding, had arrived at the Jaxion Way location to purchase a vehicle.  While they were waiting, confidential victim’s boyfriend, 24 year old Seth Anthony Fontaine, of Redding, arrived and ordered the victim to leave with him.  The victim refused so Fontaine grabbed her in a head lock, brandished a tire iron at Payne and drug the victim into a nearby wooded area.  Fontaine took the victim’s cell phone and attempted to smash it.  Fontaine ultimately drug the victim approximately 150 yards from the residence.  While Fontaine was taking the victim into the wooded area he threatened her life several times saying he was going to kill her.

Payne’s boyfriend, 39 year old Todd Pitner, of Redding, arrived at the Jaxion Way address and learned of the assault.  Payne went into the wooded area and located Fontaine who still had control of the victim.  Pitner tackled Fontaine and separated him from the victim.  Arriving officers located all involved parties and took Fontaine into custody.

The victim was found to have suffered only minor injuries.  Fontaine was arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of kidnapping, criminal threats, robbery, domestic violence, and possession of a controlled substance.  Fontaine was on Post Release Community Supervision prior to his arrest.  He had previously been sentenced to prison for a vehicle pursuit.

A picture of Fontaine has been attached to this release.
