Parolee Flees From Stolen Vehicle, Gets Struck by Another Vehicle, Then Arrested

 October 14th, 2020               6:15 P.M.

On Tuesday, October 14, 2020, at approximately 2:45 P.M., Redding Police Officer Eva Smith was patrolling the area of Dana Drive when she found a reported stolen vehicle in the parking lot of 961 Dana Drive in Redding.  The vehicle, a 2000 Toyota Camry, had been reported stolen from Susanville, California on October 13th, 2020.

The vehicle was occupied by a male driver and a female passenger.  As Officer Smith began giving commands to the occupants of the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 35 year old Brian Allen Munoz of Westwood, California, fled on foot.

Munoz ran through the shrubbery between the parking lot and Dana Drive before proceeding out onto Dana Drive in heavy traffic.  Munoz was struck by a westbound vehicle and knocked to the ground.  He was apprehended by Officer Nicole Rempfer who secured him in handcuffs and summoned medical personnel.

Munoz was transported to Mercy Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.  He was released from custody at the hospital because his treatment prevented him from being booked into the Shasta County Jail.

The stolen vehicle was searched by officers.  Methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia was located along with an open container of alcohol.  The vehicle was ultimately towed from the scene and the registered owner was notified.

Munoz faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotics paraphernalia, possession of an open container in a vehicle and a parole violation.

The female passenger was cooperative.  She was released after being interviewed.

The stolen vehicle was towed from the scene and the registered owner was notified.

A picture of Munoz has been attached to this release.
