NEWS RELEASE

October 5th, 2020          10:45 P.M.

Redding Police Department Officers and Agents with ABC conducted a Minor Shoulder Tap operation on October 5th, 2020 from 5 pm to 10 pm in the City of Redding.  The operations target adults who purchase alcohol for people under 21 years of age.  Under the program, minors under the direct supervision of officers will stand outside a liquor or convenience store and ask patrons to buy them alcohol after indicating they are underage and cannot purchase the alcohol for themselves.  The penalty for furnishing alcohol to a minor is a minimum $1,000 fine and 24 hours of community service.

During the Shoulder Tap operation a total of 17 adults were contacted and two individuals were cited for furnishing alcohol to a minor: Wyatt Richard Williams Stier, age 23 of Redding, and Joseph David Trujillo, age 65 years of Redding.

The Redding Police Department and ABC would like to thank the individuals who declined to furnish alcohol to the minor decoy.  The goals of the minor shoulder tap program are to prevent minors from having access to alcohol and to raise public awareness of the dangers and criminal liability associated with furnishing alcohol to minors.
