Felony Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested



On December 20, 2019 at about 5:49 p.m., officers responded to a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision on South Market Street south of Angelo Street.  Upon arrival, officers located Daniel Eric Kihm, age 50 of Redding, deceased on the west shoulder of South Market Street.  Based on the injuries Daniel Kihm suffered and evidence located at the scene, it appeared he was struck by a vehicle while walking along the southbound shoulder of South Market Street.  There were no witnesses to the collision.

On December 26, 2019 an abandoned vehicle was reported near Court and Gold Street.  The vehicle had damage consistent with being involved in a traffic collision with a pedestrian.  During the course of this investigation, traffic officers were able to identify William Allen McKee, age 31 of Redding, as the driver of the vehicle when he allegedly struck and killed Daniel Kihm.

On November 3, 2020 at about 5:30 p.m., the Redding Police Department Neighborhood Police Unit (NPU) located William McKee and he was arrested on an unrelated felony warrant.  McKee was interviewed by Traffic Officer Snyder about his involvement in the traffic collision.  McKee was subsequently booked into the Shasta County Jail on his felony warrant, felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
