November 4th, 2020 12:45 P.M.
On November 4th, 2020 at approximately 08:08 A.M., Officers from the Redding Police Department responded to the Motel 6 on Twin View Blvd. Staff at the motel called to report an occupant of a room was screaming, damaging property and flooding the room with water. Staff attempted to speak with the occupant, who answered the door fully nude and threatened to kill staff at the hotel.
When Officers arrived on scene, they noted water was pouring from the upstairs room onto the room below. Officers made contact with the occupant, Michael Hernandez, 46 years of Santa Rosa. Officers were familiar with Hernandez, who was arrested earlier in the week following a series of hit and run collisions. Hernandez resisted attempts at communication and threw the motel room telephone into the parking lot below.
Officers spent approximately 45 minutes hailing for Hernandez to exit the room, as he occasionally opened the door and threw items of property, including the room’s smoke detector, into the parking lot. Hernandez suffered several self-inflicted injuries while breaking out the windows to the hotel room. Officers utilized less than lethal force options, including Police K9 to take Hernandez safely into custody.
Hernandez was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment of his injuries. Following treatment, Hernandez was booked into Shasta County Jail for Criminal Threats, Vandalism, Resisting Arrest, and Trespassing. Hernandez is depicted in the photo below.
