Red Light Violation Causes Fatal Traffic Collision at Lake Boulevard and Oasis Road

On December 8, 2020 at 4:00 PM, officers responded to an injury traffic collision at the intersection of Lake Boulevard and Oasis Road.  Upon arrival, officers located a white Buick Riviera with major front-end damage in the middle of the roadway east of the intersection.  A black Toyota 4-Runner was located on its passenger against a light pole on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Toyota 4-Runner sustained major damage, and the driver and passenger were trapped in the vehicle.  The Redding Fire Department extricated the individuals.  The driver was transported to Mercy Hospital with major injuries.  The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. Neither were wearing their seatbelts. The driver of the Buick, Cassandra Petty, age 31 of Redding, was wearing her seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.

According to  Petty and several witnesses, the driver of the Toyota 4-Runner was traveling northbound on Lake Boulevard when he failed to stop for a red light.  The Toyota 4-Runner collided with Petty who was making a left-hand turn from southbound Lake Boulevard on a green light.  The collision caused the Toyota 4-Runner to roll onto its side and collide with the light pole.

The driver of the Toyota 4-Runner was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs, causing injury.  He was released at the hospital for treatment of his injuries.  This collision is still under investigation.  If you were a witness to this collision, contact Officer Stark at the Redding Police Department.  The names of other involved individuals will not be released, pending positive identification and relative notification.
