On January 12, 2021 at about 11:44 AM, officers responded to a roll-over traffic collision on North Market Street (State Route 273) at Benton Drive. The collision blocked both northbound and southbound lanes of North Market Street while the collision was investigated and debris cleared.
Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, Michael Abrams, age 69 of Redding, was traveling southbound on North Market Street when he decided to make a U-turn at Benton Drive. After completing the U-turn, Abrams accelerated rapidly and lost control of his blue 2002 Chevy Silverado. Abrams struck the raised center median, causing his vehicle to roll over. Abrams entered the southbound lanes of traffic. Abrams vehicle struck a silver 1989 Toyota Tercel being driven by Patricia Griffin, age 84 of Redding. Griffin was traveling southbound on North Market street when Abram’s vehicle rolled onto the hood and windshield of her vehicle. Griffin was able to drive her vehicle to the side of the roadway after the collision.
Abrams and Griffin suffered moderate injuries and were transported to local hospitals. Both individuals were wearing their seatbelts. Alcohol and/or drugs do not appear to be a factor in this collision. The traffic collision is still under investigation.
