NEWS RELEASE

DATE  April 26, 2020                     TIME  2:00 a.m.

CASE#20R026432

On April 25, 2020 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Redding Police Officers and Community Service Officers responded to an unknown injury two vehicle collision in the area of Churn Creek Road at Harpole Road.  Upon arrival, they learned no one was injured but one driver appeared to be under the influence of controlled substances.

Aspen Link, 21 years of age of Hayfork, CA was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo southbound on Churn Creek Road and admitted she was looking at her phone just prior to the collision.  Scott Jeter, 43 years of Redding, CA was driving his 1964 Chevrolet southbound and prepared to turn eastbound onto Harpole Road when Ms. Link collided into the rear of his car.  Everyone involved was wearing their seat belts.

Investigating officers learned Ms. Link didn’t have a valid license or insurance.  She also appeared disoriented and smelled of marijuana.  She performed field sobriety tests.  Officers believed she was under the influence of marijuana and subsequently arrested her for driving under the influence of drugs.  Ms. Link’s car had to be towed.

Ms. Link’s car was searched and officers located marijuana cigarettes, concentrated cannabis, marijuana buds, and currency consistent with the sales of marijuana.  All evidence was collected and the money seized.  Ms. Link was transported and booked into the Shasta County Jail for possession and transportation of marijuana for sales, driving on a suspended license, and DUI drugs.

Unfortunately, these types of collisions happen all too frequently.  DUI drugs, including marijuana, and the use of a cellular phone while driving caused this collision.  Gratefully no one was injured.  Please consider others and don’t drink or use drugs and drive.  And leave your phone alone while driving.
